Magnolia vs Rain or Shine QF Game 2 | PBA Season 49 Governors' Cup

Magnolia capitalized on Aaron Fuller’s early exit, delivering a stunning 121-69 rout of Rain or Shine in Game 2 of their quarterfinals series during the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup at the Sta. Rosa Multi-Purpose Complex on Friday, Sept. 27.

The Hotshots showcased an ironclad defense against the Elasto Painters, particularly in the second quarter, where they stifled the Group B top seed to a mere five points while simultaneously unleashing a 36-point offensive barrage.

As the game unfolded, Magnolia pulled decisively ahead, establishing a staggering 38-point lead at halftime, 66-28. From that moment on, the Hotshots faced no challenges, not only leveling the series at 1-1 but also inflicting a franchise-worst 52-point defeat upon the Elasto Painters.

Leading the charge for Magnolia was their new import and former NBA player Jabari Bird, who delivered a stellar double-double performance with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Calvin Abueva also shone brightly, posting a conference-high of 18 points alongside 10 rebounds.

Mark Barroca orchestrated the offensive strategy with precision, contributing 10 assists to complement his 11 points, while Ian Sangalang added 12. Rome dela Rosa and Joseph Eriobu chipped in with 11 points each, rounding out a well-distributed scoring effort.

Rain or Shine continued to struggle with their shooting, managing a dismal 9-of-23 from beyond the arc and failing to convert from the four-point territory, going 0-of-4.

The absence of Fuller, who left the game in the second quarter after being poked in the eye by Ian Sangalang, severely impacted the Elasto Painters. Magnolia dominated the boards, 67-37, which played a pivotal role in neutralizing Rain or Shine’s fast-paced offense, limiting them to just six fastbreak points.
