Hotshots extend unbeaten streak to 6
The Magnolia Hotshots continue to dominate the PBA Season 48 Commissioner’s Cup elims, reaching the halfway mark with an undefeated record.
With their coach’s constant reminder to start strong and finish stronger, the Hotshots secured their sixth consecutive win by defeating the Blackwater Bossing with a commanding score of 105-84 at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.
Despite the Bossing putting up a fight in the first three quarters and only trailing by five points at the start of the final quarter, they were unable to find a solution as the Hotshots shifted into high gear.
The Hotshots maintained their momentum and closed the game with a remarkable 35-19 run. Coach Chito Victolero’s team once again showcased their dominance, adding another significant victory to their flawless run that dates back to the preseason On Tour series.
Tyler Bey ignited their fourth-quarter surge and recorded another impressive double-double performance with 26 points and 22 rebounds. He also contributed three assists, one steal, and one block, despite committing six turnovers.
Similar to their previous victories, the team received significant support from the locals.
Paul Lee led the locals in scoring with 19 points, while Jio Jalalon, Ian Sangalang, and Mark Barroca each contributed 10 points.
It wasn’t just the usual contributors from Magnolia, as bigs James Laput and Abu Tratter, also made critical contributions.
Joseph Eriobu had his shining moment in the fourth quarter, finishing with nine points, five rebounds, and one assist.
Blackwater’s performance was hindered by early fouls, leading to their fifth consecutive loss.
Chris Ortiz, who was restricted to only 36 minutes of play due to fouls, could only contribute eight points and eight rebounds.
Despite the efforts of five local players scoring in double digits, the Bossing couldn’t match the Hotshots’ pace.
Christian David and Mike Ayonayon led the charge for the Jeff Cariaso-mentored squad with 15 points each.
