Hotshots survive Elasto Painters in Tiaong, extend win streak to 4

Magnolia kept their winning streak alive by outlasting Rain or Shine, 108-102, at the Tiaong Convention Center in Quezon during the PBA 48th Season Philippine Cup.

Ian Sangalang and Mark Barroca delivered clutch performances for the Hotshots, putting an end to the Elasto Painters’ five-game winning streak.

With this victory, Magnolia improved their record to 5-2 and secured the second spot in the team standings.

Despite holding a 15-point lead, Magnolia had to fend off a late surge from Rain or Shine to secure the win. The game-changing moment came during an 11-0 run, highlighted by Paul Lee’s milestone three-pointer, which extended Magnolia’s lead to 96-84. From then on, Rain or Shine struggled to catch up.

Sangalang led the Hotshots with 25 points and 12 rebounds, while Barroca contributed 18 points, seven rebounds, and nine assists. Sangalang’s crucial shot and Barroca’s jumper in the final minutes sealed the victory for Magnolia.

Aris Dionisio chipped in 13 points and six rebounds, while Jed Mendoza provided a spark off the bench with 12 points.

On the other side, Adrian Nocum led Rain or Shine with 19 points, despite his struggles from the free-throw line.

Santi Santillan and Beau Belga also made significant contributions for Rain or Shine with 17 and 16 points, respectively. However, missed free throws in key moments proved costly for the Elasto Painters in their efforts to overcome the streaking Hotshots.
