Ian Sangalang excited to play with Calvin Abueva again

Ian Sangalang is looking forward to playing again with his longtime college and amateur teammate Calvin Abueva.

The two, together with Ronald Pascual, formed the dreaded ‘Pinatubo Trio’ for San Sebastian and the three played key roles as the Stags ended the three-year reign of NCAA rival San Beda in 2009.

Sangalanga and Abueva continued their partnership in the Philippine Basketball League and powered Excelroof all the way to the championship in 2010. The duo brought their act to NLEX in the PBA D-League and led the Road Warriors to three straight titles from 2011 to 2012.

Abueva then made the leap to the big league while Sangalang made the same move the following year.

And after Magnolia’s acquisition of ‘The Beast’ last week, the 2nd overall pick of the 2013 draft couldn’t contain his excitement.

“I’m really excited to play with Calvin again! Hindi ko expected na mapunta siya samin. Kanina, nag-usap kami kahit sa phone lang at sobrang saya ni Calvin. Syempre, masaya din ako nakita ko siya,” said Sangalang during an interview with Spin.ph.

“He promised na iingatan niya ‘yung spot. Kung nasaan siya ngayon, papahalagahan niya ‘yan. I believe na gagawin ni Calvin ‘yan kasi kilala ko siya, gagawin niya talaga ‘yon. Welcome na welcome siya sa amin, besides, nandon naman ako and ‘yung buong team para tulungan siya,” he added.
