Ian Sangalang says Calvin Abueva easy to talk to: ‘Nakikinig naman sya’

Ian Sangalang has known Calvin Abueva since their college days at San Sebastian.

So it came as no surprise that after Abueva lost his cool during Manila Clasico last Sunday which led to his ejection, Sangalang took it upon himself to make sure that his buddy regains his focus.

“Madali namang sabihan si Calvin, eh. Nakikinig naman siya,” said the Magnolia big man shortly after the Hotshots secured the much-needed win against the Gin Kings which prevented a further slide down the team standings.

The 34-year old Abueva, who was acquired last year from Phoenix Super LPG in exchange for Chris Banchero and two draft picks, was thrown out of the game after incurring two technical fouls – both on Brgy. Ginebra guard Nards Pinto.

He immediately left the venue and was overheard saying “Japan, Japan. Bye PBA” while walking towards the exit. The 2-time Best Player of the Conference awardee would later on post a challenge on his IG page asking for video proof that he deserved the call. The post has since been deleted.

The league on Tuesday slapped Abueva with a ₱10,000 fine along with a 1-game suspension.

Sangalang, however, believes that his buddy has already changed for the better and that he would easily move on from this latest incident.

“Nakita naman namin kung paano siya nagbago dito sa team, kasi never na siyang nawala, never na siyang nag-absent. Kaya naniniwala ako kaya kong i-handle si Calvin,” said Sangalang.
