Magnolia settles for runner-up finish in 2021 PBA Philippine Cup
TNT captured the All-Filipino crown and shattered its 6-year title drought after outclassing Magnolia, 94-79, Friday night in Game 5 of the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup Finals at the Don Honorio Ventura State University in Bacolor, Pampanga.
The Tropang Giga led by as many as 23 points in the lopsided contest and put an end to the supremacy of corporate rival San Miguel Corporation.
Rookie Mikey Williams, who was named as the 2021 Honda PBA Philippine Cup Finals MVP, finished with 24 points on 8-of-20 shooting spiked by 4 three-pointers.
After a scoreless 1st quarter, Williams registered 10 of his 24 points in the 2nd frame to lead the charge of the flagship franchise of the MVP group.
RR Pogoy posted 19 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals while Jayson Castro added 10 markers, 2 boards, 3 dimes, 2 steals and 1 block for the Tropang Giga.
The Hotshots, on the other hand, were unable to recover from a 1-3 deficit after falling into the hands of the 8-time PBA Champs.
Ian Sangalang paced the Chito Victolero-mentored squad with 18 points on 50% shooting from the field while Calvin Abueva racked up 14 points, 7 rebounds and 1 block. Jerrick Ahanmisi contributed 11 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists.
