PBA Deputy commissioner Eric Castro on Monday said the league needs to submit certifications of acceptance from every team’s accommodations before the office of Governor Dennis Pineda can decide whether the 2021 Philippine Cup can resume in the province of Pampanga.

Castro said three areas have been prepared for the 12 teams. While details could still change, seven teams will stay in a hotel, three will reside in a villa in Angeles.

An unnamed game venue, as well as three additional practice areas — that could include the Angeles University Foundation (AUF) Sports and Cultural Center — have already been identified by the PBA.

“We’re just finalizing everything. Obviously they want wooden flooring for their practice venues, but the venues with that type of flooring are limited. Right now, AUF is one possible practice and in-game venue. The rest, we’re just waiting for approval,” Castro said.

Pampanga, which hosted the PBA’s “bubble” season last year, may end up being the league’s last hope of avoiding a lengthy break from its schedule. Metro Manila, currently under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), and Batangas, still under general community quarantine (GCQ) with heightened restrictions, remain unavailable.

The PBA had to temporarily suspend the games then held at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig on August 3 after a surge in COVID-19 cases nation wide.
