Converge sends Jerrick Balanza to Magnolia for future pick

In a strategic move to bolster their lineup and improve their performance in the ongoing PBA Season 48 Philippine Cup, Magnolia executed its initial trade of the season.

The team, currently sporting a 2-2 record, acquired Jerrick Balanza from Converge in exchange for a 2024 second-round pick, as confirmed by the league on Thursday, April 11.

This transaction comes at a critical juncture for the Hotshots, who have been grappling with injuries to key players Aris Dionisio and Rome dela Rosa.

In their absence, Magnolia suffered consecutive losses to Brgy. Ginebra and NLEX before regaining momentum with a pivotal victory against NorthPort.

Balanza bids farewell to the FiberXers after a brief stint of just over a year, moving over to his fourth PBA team.

Originally drafted 13th overall in the 2019 PBA Draft, Balanza previously suited up for the Gin Kings and the Batang Pier before joining Converge in January last year in a trade which also involved Allyn Bulanadi.

Despite seeing limited playing time with the FiberXers in the Philippine Cup, averaging 2.7 points and 1.5 rebounds in fewer than seven minutes per game, Balanza now has the opportunity to contribute significantly to the Hotshots.

As Converge continues to languish in the cellar with a winless record after 6 outings, Balanza’s addition could prove instrumental in Magnolia’s quest for success in the ongoing conference.
