Converge def Magnolia, 93-91 [PBA S49 Comm’s Cup | Dec. 1, 2024]

Both Magnolia and Converge will be striving for a more cohesive performance when they face off this Sunday in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

The Hotshots are looking to build on their previous outing, a commanding 118-100 victory over Blackwater last Thursday that marked a strong start to their campaign in the mid-season conference.

Meanwhile, the FiberXers are eager to rebound after a disappointing 106-117 defeat against guest team Eastern just days ago, which left them with a 1-1 record.

As Magnolia’s coach Chito Victolero prepares for the matchup, he recognizes that the recent loss has only heightened Converge’s potential threat on the court.

While Calvin Abueva could have played a pivotal role in thwarting the FiberXers’ fast-paced attack, he will be sidelined due to a neck injury sustained in the game against Blackwater.

In addition to the contributions of Converge’s local players, Victolero has identified Cheick Diallo as a major concern following the 28-year-old Mali native’s explosive performance, where he poured in a conference-high 43 points along with nine rebounds in the loss to the Hong Kong-based squad.

Despite the challenges, the former Coach of the Year remains optimistic that his team will find their rhythm as the conference unfolds. The local Hotshots have been given more time to establish chemistry with Ricardo Ratliffe, who made an impressive return to the league with 30 points and 18 rebounds against Blackwater.
