Magnolia def Terrafirma, 108-100 [PBA S48 PH Cup | May 3, 2024]

Anticipate an electric atmosphere when Magnolia clashes with the equally determined Terrafirma squad this Friday in the PBA Philippine Cup at the PhilSports Arena.

Hotshots coach Chito Victolero has vowed an intense showdown between the two teams.

“We need to have that sense of urgency, that the game tomorrow is our first playoff game,” said Victolero. “Playoff mentality na for us starting tomorrow and I’m sure sila rin ganoon ang approach.”

Following a disappointing loss, Magnolia is focused on bouncing back and securing a spot in the top six with a 5-4 record heading into the 4:30 p.m. match.

A victory on Friday and another against TNT on Sunday would solidify their position in the top six, setting them up for best-of-three matchups against teams ranked third to sixth.

Meanwhile, the 5-5 Dyip are aiming for a crucial win to secure a rare quarterfinals appearance and a spot among the top six teams in the standings.

Terrafirma will face a tough challenge against a motivated Magnolia squad.

“Nandiyan ang opportunity kaya kailangan sunggaban namin,” said Terrafirma coach Johnedel Cardel. “Siyempre, hindi magiging madali dahil mabigat talaga ang kalaban, so kailangan trabahuhin namin ng husto,” added Cardel. “Pero positive naman ang mga bata, the whole team.”

Despite their recent setback against Meralco, where they scored a franchise-low 51 points, Victolero believes his veteran team is resilient and ready to bounce back.

Jio Jalalon is set to return from a knee injury, providing a boost to the Hotshots, while Calvin Abueva’s status remains day-to-day due to his own knee issue.

The stage is set for a thrilling showdown between Magnolia and Terrafirma as both teams battle for a crucial victory in the PBA Philippine Cup.
