WATCH: Ian Sangalang Highlights [Magnolia vs Terrafirma | Dec. 20, 2023]
PBA Season 48 Commissioner's Cup
Magnolia dominated from the start, establishing a commanding lead and never relinquishing it in their impressive 103-91 victory over Terrafirma in the PBA Season 48 Commissioner’s Cup match held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Hotshots showcased their dominance by establishing a 13-point lead after the first quarter and extending it to a 19-point advantage at halftime. They continued to widen the gap, reaching their largest lead of 31 points before comfortably securing their eighth win in nine games.
This resounding triumph served as a strong rebound for Magnolia after their undefeated start was halted by a narrow defeat to Rain or Shine, 113-110, in Cagayan de Oro last Saturday.
The victory not only solidified the Hotshots’ hold on the top spot but also bolstered their pursuit of a top 4 finish, which guarantees a valuable twice-to-beat advantage for each team.
“Alam naman namin na darating, hindi namin alam kung kailan,” said Magnolia head coach Chito Victolero during the post-game presser. “Good thing with this game, I thank the Lord for the positivity na binibigay Niya sa amin. At least, ‘yung game namin, ‘yung bounce back game namin, nawala na ‘yung [talo] namin sa Cagayan.”
Tyler Bey was the top performer for the Hotshots, contributing 25 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists. Meanwhile, Ian Sangalang, who was celebrating his 32nd birthday, had a solid performance with 18 points and nine rebounds. Paul Lee also made an impact with 16 points, including five three-pointers, and seven assists.
Jio Jalalon played a crucial role for Magnolia, scoring 13 points, six assists, and five rebounds. The team dominated the boards, outrebounding Terrafirma 57-42, and had a significant advantage in assists, 34-16.
