PBA to summon Jackson Corpuz; Finals Game 3 officiating placed under review
After a heated Game 3 of the 2021 Philippine Cup best-of-seven Finals on Sunday night, Jackson Corpuz will be summoned after picking up a flagrant foul on Troy Rosario as he tried to stop his TNT counterpart on the break only for the latter to fall badly.
Rosario suffered a dislocated left finger and was never able to return to the game. The Tropang Giga may not have the 6-foot-7 big man for the rest of the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup finals against the Magnolia Hotshots.
Corpuz, on the other hand will have a chance to explain his side before league officials regarding the nasty incident during the third quarter.
The heated game has also received much criticism online due to the physical encounters and controversial officiating.
According to Deputy Commissioner Eric Castro, the match will undergo review as it has clearly been a practice of the league – whether officiating was questionable or not.
“Like all calls, we will review it further,” said Castro. “And like all players, we will summon him (Corpuz),” he added.
TNT Tropang Giga owner Manny V. Pangilinan hit out on the officiating as the team fell to the Magnolia, 98-106, in Game 3 at Bacolor, Pampanga.
Pangilinan wrote on twitter, “Worst officiating by far tonight I’ve seen.”
Meanwhile, TNT big man Poy Erram went to social media as well and called out a Magnolia player for going overboard with his antics, accusing him of deliberately hurting and spitting on members of the TNT.
The incident happened not long after Corpuz was ejected with three minutes left in the third quarter. Erram did not identify the said player in his posts.
