Purefoods TJ Titans gave Leg 2 winner Meralco 3×3 the boot in the quarterfinals of the PBA 3×3 Lakas ng Tatlo’s third leg, 12-10, to join first-timers Terrafirma, Pioneer and Sista in the semifinals Sunday at Ynares Sports Arena.
Jed Mendoza hit a clutch two-pointer to give teammates Joseph Eriobu, Pau Javelona and Antonio Bonsubre a four-point cushion going to the last 36 seconds of a low-scoring quarterfinal matchup with Meralco.
Meralco’s Joseph Sedurifa made it 12-10 from beyond the arc with still 21 ticks left but the Titans, third placers in the opening leg, held on to reach the Final Four again after missing the knockout rounds in the second leg.
The semis round pits Pioneer against Terrafirma and Sista versus Purefoods with the winner advancing to the one-game finale.
Sustaining their hot run from pool action, the unbeaten Dyip stamped their class on Barangay Ginebra, 21-14, to finally crack the Last-4 after getting stuck in the quarterfinals in the first two legs.
The Dyip crew of Dhon Reverente, Terrence Tumalip, Matt Salem and Jebb Bulawan, who are dedicating this campaign to injured captain Roider Cabrera, broke free from a tight contest with Ginabra with a 9-2 spurt for a huge 17-9 cushion.
Also breaking through to the semis were guest team Pioneer Pro Tibay and Sista Super Sealers.
Purefoods 12 – Mendoza 6, Javelona 3, Bonsubre 3, Eriobu 0.
